Youkilis Trades Sox Colors

Kevin Youkilis was once made famous by his “Moneyball” reputation as the “Greek God of Walks”. The king of OBP was traded by one Sox organization to another on Sunday.

Kevin Youkilis had fallen out of favor with management with an up and comer in the talent pool on his way to stardom at his position for the Red Sox. Kenny Williams had to make a move to improve his ball club and the offensive production from the third base position, as the White Sox are a MLB low 162, with one home run from the corner infield spot.

The White Sox gave up utility man Brent Lillibridge, and Zach Stewart who is the centerpiece of the deal. The White Sox are trading away the rights to a 25 year RHP who was once taken in the 3rd Round out of Texas Tech and has some potential. The reason the Red Sox are getting back such a decent prospect in return for the jettisoned Youkilis is because they are absorbing all but two million remaining dollars remaining on the contract, with a team option for next year which would cost the Red Sox $13 Million if the White Sox choose to bring him back.

All in all it seems to be a fair deal for both teams as the White Sox have a need, while the Red Sox have a surplus. Clearly both teams have made out well as the Sox get a young pitcher with upside even though they had to pay a little more for it. The White Sox can plug Youkilis into the sixth position in the batting order and solidify their third base for potentially the next year and a half if they get production out of the player.

Would the White Sox have gotten eventual production out of a player at 3B?

Can the White Sox make this rental player a returning starter?
