Chicago- White Sox slugger Adam Dunn will be down and out of the game for a short time, after having an emergency appendectomy, the Tribune reported on Wednesday.

After The White Sox lost to the Royals in Kansas City 7-6, 31-year-old Dunn was rushed to the hospital late Tuesday.

He will be out for at least five days, according to reports and is the second MLB player this week to have such a procedure.  On Friday, St. Louis Cardinals Matt Holliday had an emergency appendectomy and is currently still out.

This only the second time during his 11 year career that he will be out of the game due to injury. Dunn will miss the Sox home opener this Thursday at U.S. Cellular Field.
