USA Olympic Gab-fest

The youngest competitor for the United States has pulled off the sweep in gymnastics. Gabby Douglas won the gold medal in the individual competition and brought home her second gold medal in the last few days. Douglas’ teammate Aly Raisman, who helped her to the team gold, finished fourth in the individual competition after she lost a tiebreaker when scores were readjusted based on the tiebreaking procedure. Gabby finished with a final score of 62.23 to give her the gold over Russian Voktoria Komova.

It has been an interesting week for the U.S. Gymnastics team as they won their first team gold medal since 1996 in Atlanta. Those games were highlighted by Kerri Strugg’s vault on a sprained ankle that gave the U.S. first place. Gabby Douglas’ age combined with the overall youth of the team could mean great things for the future of the USA women’s gymnastics.

With Raisman’s and Douglas’ exemplary performances expect both girls to come home as media darlings.

Can Douglas win gold in 2016?

With the youth and experience of the team, will the USA dominate gymnastics?
