Tour bus crash sends 20 to area hospitals


An accident involving a tour bus and two other vehicles on the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway sent 20 people with minor injuries to area hospitals Sunday.

Two cars traveling in front of the bus in the local lanes at 47th Street crashed around 6 p.m., one of the cars fled while the other spun around, causing the tour bus to hit it and then strike the middle median, said Chicago District State Police Master Sgt. Gregory Coate.

An EMS Plan 2 was called to scene and eight people were taken to area hospitals in fair-to-serious condition, 12 others were taken in good-to-fair condition, said Chicago Fire spokesman Kevin

MacGregor. 31 others refused medical treatment, he added.

According to reports from the scene, the Royal Excursions tour bus was coming from the Majestic Star Casino. The other 31 passengers were transferred to a CTA bus to continue on their trip to Chinatown.
