Sweet Science of Boxing to Reduce Street Violence

Rasheda Ali, daughter of The Greatest and program media director for the Police Athletic League of Illinois, has announced that the PAL and the Illinois State Crime Commission are joining forces to reduce violent crime in Chicago. Their innovative boxing initiative allows kids from all over the city to apply themselves in the ring at police gyms.

Rasheda Ali says, “If I can save at least one child from being gunned down in front of their houses – then the work we’re doing here today will be worth it.” A dedicated commitment to hard work and improving oneself are the foundation for success in boxing as well as in life. Time well spent in a gym is time not spent on the streets. Rasheda’s father started boxing through a police boxing program, and she has experienced the loss of a family member to gun violence.

The new program will host their first boxing event featuring about 50 youth boxers on May 5.
