Stores Allowing Loitering Face Sanctions

The Chicago Police Department is going after store owners who do not help disrupt loitering gang members from selling drugs and possessing firearms. The city is working with neighborhood watch groups and religious groups to build grievances against the stores, targeting all business establishments with an emphasis on liquor and convenient stores. So far, there have been 37 businesses flagged with 18 currently facing sanctions.

According to a city official, “When a business owner flagrantly ignores City regulations and creates a haven for criminal activity, it becomes a detriment to the neighborhood, and the City will take whatever actions are necessary to keep the community safe from such businesses.”

How else can neighborhood watch groups coordinate with officials to help cut down on gun violence?
