More Gambling for Illinois?

A recent Senate bill considering expanded gaming and slot machines in race tracks has been brought up for public comment.  Casinos are supported in most areas of Illinois. Projected first-year revenues to the state from licensing and bidding are estimated to exceed $200 million and approximately 20,000 jobs would be created with the bill’s passage.

Job creation is a central theme for Americans particularly with a struggling economy.  Casino expansion seems to offer easy pickings for the state revenue coffers and expanded employment opportunities. Estimators are saying the bill could generate close to $8 million a year for state coffers.

Do increased revenues for the state make gambling right for Illinois?
