Off and Running

The Bulls 2014- 2015 season has got off to a tremendous start, and unlike the football team here in Chicago, the expectations for them appear to be within reach. The Bulls won again last night without Derrick Rose for much of the night. Rose played only 31 minutes in Milwaukee, the least of any starter on the team. The Bulls won 95-86 improving to 4-1 on the season, 3-0 on the road.

The immediate returns of signing Pau Gasol have been very good for last years offensively challenged Bulls, and the defense is again picking up right where it left off holding teams to just 95PPG. Last night the Bulls front court tandem of Gibson and Gasol ripped down 24 of the teams 42 rebounds on the night and that was without Noah who was out with an undisclosed illness.

The Bulls appear to be a team that’ll very much stand tough in the very weak Eastern Conference this year. The Bulls don’t seem to want to push Derrick Rose very hard in the early part of the season and that shouldn’t hurt them. A full compliment of players for Tom Thibodeau should allow him to be more effective on the defensive end, and with Derrick Rose rounding into form by Christmas time, there’s no reason to think they are destined for anything less then an Eastern Conference Finals berth. The lone loss on the season came at home against the still gelling Cleveland Cavaliers and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The Cavs are a very talented team and it’ll be interesting to see how they do as the year progresses, and the synergy on the court molds together. Lebron James appears to be letting his teammates see more of the ball while taking himself out of the offense a little more. The Bulls play a very hard nosed game, and if they’re healthy come playoff time, it will be very interesting to see how they match up with Cleveland.

The expectancy is that Cleveland will eventually find their way and go on a big run in the middle of the season. This will allow ESPN and the likes to proclaim the new big three is perfect and the Cleveland fanbase will be rejoicing in the streets on the nights their big three score 80 points combined. While it’s still very early it’s good to note that Rose being held out and eased back into the lineup will be a good thing come the second half of the season. The only thing people should care about when it comes to this Bulls team is that they’re healthy and clicking after the Super Bowl.
