Response to High Rise Fire

A high rise fire on the city’s South Side has been extinguished.

Authorities say that the fire was contained to one apartment on the third floor of the eight-story senior citizen building at 3245 S. Prairie.

The 72 year-old resident of the apartment is in serious condition and has been transported to Mercy Hospital.

Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Joe Roccasalva said that victim is expected to have a speedy recovery.

The Chicago Police Department is assisting with traffic and control as the fire department cleans the building, Officer John Mirabelli said.
