17-year-old charged with Avondale Murder

Chicago Police charged Abel Lopez, 17, of the 3100 block of North Elston, in the Avondale shooting that on May 19th in the parking lot of a laundromaton the 3000 block of North California.

Lopez allegedly approached two victims at about 1:45 pm, as they were sitting in a vehicle, produced a handgun, and began firing.  Jesus Gamboa of the 2900 block of North Washtenaw Avenue sustained a fatal gunshot wound and the other victim received multiple gunshot wounds.

Area 5 Detectives were able to develop leads that pointed to Lopez as the shooter and took him into custody.  Lopez was charged with one count of First Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.

Lopez is to appear in bond court Tuesday at 26th and California.
