Man Dead After Falling From Garage

A 63 year-old man was killed early Saturday night after falling four stories down an elevator shaft in a loop parking garage, authorities said.

The man was identified as George Davis, of the 10000 block of South Yale Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Davis was a customer at the four-story State Parking Garage, located at 171 N. Wabash Ave., when he attempted to use the elevator, which resembled a vertical conveyor belt, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Joe Roccasalva.

The Chicago Fire Department responded to the parking garage at 7:44 p.m. and was pronounced dead on arrival at Northwestern Memorial Hosiptal, Roccasalva said.

The elevator was blocked off by gates and there were signs saying it was for employee use only, the Chicago Tribune Reports.

Chicago police are conducting a death investigation, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.
The man was transported to Northwestern Hospital.
