Latest Update: Gifford’s asking for Toast

Reportedly making meal requests- Rep. Gabrielle Gifford’s condition is continuing to improve.

The Associated Press reported that Giffords spoke for the first time several days ago, according to spokesman C.J. Karamargin.

On Monday, when the Arizona Democrat was being served breakfast, she requested toast–yet another sign of Gifford’s continued improvement.

Astronaut Mark Kelly, Gifford’s husband announced Friday that he will be commanding the Endeavour space shuttle mission in April. “You learn to separate the mission from things that might be going on in your personal life,” said Kelly when asked if he would be able to focus on the task at hand given his wife’s condition.

In Tucson, Giffords was shot in the head on Jan. 8 during a shooting spree that killed 6 and left 13 injured.
