Lady Gaga Plagiarizes?

We’ve all done it at least once in our lives…a song by today’s pop sensation will come on the radio, and you just can’t help but listen to the catchy tune.

Lady Gaga has always managed to grab attention in her own way.

She’s even deemed to be the Madonna of our time: a today’s ‘Queen of Pop,’ if you will.  It’s no surprise considering the striking similarities between the two’s images and music.

Lady Gaga’s reputation is just as pretentious as Madonna’s was in her day, and it continues to rise.

In fact, it’s so similar that critics have accused Gaga of plagiarism from Madonna.

The rumors began around the time of her release of the song ‘Alejandro,’ where the public had accused it to be a copy of Madonna’s ‘La Isla Bonita.’  It continued to escalate when her music video for the song was considered a rip off of the one for ‘Like a Prayer,’ considering the very similar choreography in both videos.

The plagiarism kept growing when Lady Gaga released her latest single ‘Born This Way,’ where everyone, including her fans, had noticed the striking similarities to it and Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself.’

It was reported that before the time of the release Lady G had received an e-mail from Madonna’s people, permitting her to go ahead with the single.  It certainly didn’t stop critics and others from accusing the artist to be a cheap knock-off of the original.

Gaga finally took a stand against the rumors, saying recently:

That’s retarded. If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression. In response to the accusations, she adds, “It’s the same one that’s been in disco music for the last 50 years. Just because I’m the first f***ing artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn’t mean I’m a plagiarist, it means I’m f***ing smart. Sorry.”

Despite her comments, the situation escalated when she released her newest single ‘Judas,’ which is said to have a bit of a resemblance to the song ‘Like a Prayer.’

The latest pop sensation pleads in her defense:

I feel like honestly that God sent me those lyrics and that melody. When you feel a message to give to the world and people are shooting arrows through it… there’s no way for something that pure to be wrong.”

Fans continue to stand by her, and critics continue to call her out.  It seems like a never ending battle between the artist and the world that is anything but over.  Despite the rumors, everyone can at least agree that Lady Gaga has some pretty catchy tunes.
