Hossa Kills Overtime 3-2

The Blackhawks are in need of wins for the rest of the year, teetering on the last couple playoff spots with only seven games left to play.

Chicago has been playing good as of late but have been making some bad mistakes leading to game changing goals.

“We have to keep things simple,”  Marian Hossa said after the game.

The Blackhawks started the game putting alot of pressure on Wing’s keeper MacDonald which then led to the first goal put in by Jonathan Toews.

Brouwer and Campoli did a great job keeping the puck in the Wing’s end and feeding a rebound to Toews.

Detroit answered back with Nicklas Lidstrom getting a point for his team, and also adding a point to his now 60 which makes him the first 40-year-old to have 60 points in a year passing up Ray Bourque.

That wasn’t it for the first period, Chicago took back the lead getting a power play goal from Hossa and Kane getting it to Seabrook who got a wrister past MacDonald.

It wasn’t until the third till either team could find the back of the net.

With a bunch of chances from both sides nothing was getting through, both net minders played strong periods.

Early in the third Blackhawks’ Hjalmarsson gets called for high sticking getting him two minutes in the sin bin.  Detroit enjoyed the extra skating room, Henrik Zetterberg was able to tap in a rebound making the score tied at 2s.

Later in the third with it all even, Chicago’s Patrick Kane really came up big for his team.  While he was fighting for the puck he was hooked by Henrik Zetterberg, setting the Blackhawks up with a power play for the last couple seconds of the third and to start off the overtime period.

That is where the Big Hoss or Marian Hossa stepped up.

Fifty seconds in overtime Duncan Keith gets a pass to Kane thenfeeds Hossa who gets a wrist shot past MacDonald ending the game and giving 2 points to the Blackhawks for the big win in Detroit.

“Good things happened at the end,”Hossa said.

“I had so many shots. Their goalie played great.” Hossa continued, “I was happy that one finally went in. We were desperate to get points.”

The Blackhawks still sit in the eighth spot because the Ducks also won Monday night.  Anaheim has 91 to the Blackhawks’ 90 points.

Chicago will try again to move up Tuesday night going up against the Bruins in Boston at 6:30 pm on Versus.

The Blackhawks only have 7 games left and the last 2 they will face the Wings again.
