Football’s Giant Return To Prime Time

The 2012 regular season kicks off tonight with the defending champion New York Giants taking on their divisional rival Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ at 7:30. The game may prove to be a harbinger for each team’s entire season. The Dallas Cowboys went 8-8 last year and were knocked out of the playoffs by the Giants on the last day of the regular season in a game played in the same stadium that they find themselves tonight.  Recently, the Cowboys have not fared well against the G-Men, winning only once in their last seven meetings.  Hoping to avoid a deja vu experience, the Cowboys made some bold moves in the offseason by drafting Morris Claiborne – whom they traded up to get – that was part of a spending spree usually reserved for a team teetering on the cusp of the postseason. The Giants finished their regular season at 9-7, but the tough late-season loss to Green Bay at home seemed to provide the gritty impetus needed slog their way to football’s summit .

The Giants enter tonight’s game as a four-point favorite and the matchup between these bitter rivals makes this an unusually pivotal game to start the season.  The pre-game festivities include Mariah Carey and No Doubt, so expect tonight to be “Must See TV.”  The game shouldn’t disappoint.
