City Toughens Gang Stance

Governor Pat Quinn signed the “Illinois Street Gang Rico” bill, that was first brought to the legislature by Cook County State’s Attorney¬†Anita Alvarez. The bill will hold gang leaders accountable for murders that take place under their watch. The most common uses of RICO statutes are in Mafia Trials, where heads of families can be held accountable for the actions of their associates. This is not just for the crime of murder, but can also pertain to drug dealing, extortion, racketeering and intimidation.
