Chicago Police Officer Shot

A Chicago Police Officer was shot in the leg on the 3000 block on South Damen Sunday.

At about 5:30 p.m. Harrison district police officers attempted to stop a vehicle at Polk and Francisco. The offenders attempted to strike to the officers with their vehicle and fled the scene, according to a statement by Superintendent Jody Weis.

Ogden district police officers observed the vehicle a short time later exiting the I-55 at Damen. The offenders then struck a Chicago Police vehicle and came to a stop. Officers attempted to remove the offenders from the vehicle, at which time shots were fired, said Weis.

The officer, a 9-year veteran of Chicago Police Department, was taken to Stroger Hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.
