Bulls show off for Pippen and Grant

Bulls won their 10th straight home game Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks 94-76 and make it their 5th win in a row.  They played in front of a packed United Center, and with some past Bulls stars in attendance for the upcoming remembrance ceremony for the 20th anniversary for the Bulls first Championship.

The last time these two teams met Atlanta came back from a 19-point deficit in the first half and upset the Bulls with a game winning three pointer.  The Bulls didn’t want to let that happen again Friday night.

With Carlos Boozer out with a sprained ankle Chicago’s players knew that they were all going to have to step up and help the team get another win at home.  That is exactly what the Bulls did against the Hawks.  Deng started the Bulls off scoring 10 points in the first quarter, “He’s a leader,” Derrick Rose said talking about Loul Deng. “He doesn’t complain or anything. He just plays. He has been our most consistent player this year.”

In the second quarter the Bulls were getting their shots through but so were the Hawks.  Atlanta put up 30-points in the second quarter making the last shot of the first half and taking the lead 50-48.  “We played great offensively and defensively in the first half. In the second half it was like we forgot everything we did in the first half.”  said Atlanta Hawk Kirk Hinrich.

Chicago added head coach Tom Thibosdeau this year to help the team make the right adjustments for succsess.  That is exactly what the second half of the game showed.  Derrick Rose out scored the Hawks in the third 18-10, Atlanta was held by great defense to only 10 points.  There was no looking back after taking back the lead with 9 minutes left to play in the 3rd.

The Bulls outscored Atlanta 46-26 in the second half, a little ironic deja vu for the Hawks who did the same against Chicago a week earlier.  Kurt Thomas stepped in for the injured Boozer playing 35 minutes and leading the Bulls with 13 rebounds, 4 points, and 2 blocks.

Derrick Rose lead the team in scoring with 34 points, he didnt have the best stats from the field, but made up for it from behind the line making 14 of his 15 free throw shots.  “I always say that I have to learn how to get fouled,” said Rose, “Me going to the hole, just attacking and putting pressure on them made them decide whether to jump or let me have a lay-up.”

The Bulls will try and make it 11 straight home game wins with the Utah Jazz coming into town at 7:00 p.m.  Chicago will have a celebration ceremony for the 20th anniversary of the 90-91 Championship team at half time.  All of the players from that team will be there except for Bill Cartwright who is an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns.  With the win over the Hawks the Bulls are now only one game back from the Boston Celtics and the #1 seed for the playoffs, Chicago only has 18 games left until the post season starts.
