Bulls Grab Win And Lead At The Madhouse

The Bulls come away with a must need win against Atlanta in Chicago Tuesday night.  The series was all tied up until the Bulls dominated and closed out the fourth quarter getting the win in game five 95-83.

It was a close game through three, the Bulls took the early command in the first but the Hawks came back and won the second and third quarter.  The Hawks got the game back into grabs only trailing the Bulls by one going into the last twelve minutes.

Chicago had a tough time closing out their last game getting dominated in the fourth 33-19.  Tom Thibodeau and the Bulls did a great job Tuesday making some adjustments to the final quarter and finishing out the final quarter 26-15 and getting them selves the lead in the series 3-2 going back to Atlanta Thursday night.

“Coach really stressed being positive,” Chicago’s Luol Deng said. “We played hard in Atlanta. It’s just the last four minutes of Game 4 we played poorly. We have a lot of trust in each other and the work we’ve put in. That’s why we were calm.”

That calmness lead to the Bulls taking care of the fourth, Tom Thibodeau decided to put in a different defensive line up for the final quarter.  With starters Derrick Rose and Deng, Thibodeau put out Taj Gibson, Ronnie Brewer, and rookie center Omer Asik.  This payed off dearly for Chicago, they held Atlanta to 29%shooting in the fourth and Taj Gibson made all of his eleven points in the final quarter.

“We had the ‘Bench Mob’ come in and lock down for us,” Carlos Boozer said. “Our bench has been great for us all year. Not a lot of teams have that, but we do.”

MVP Rose lead Chicago scoring 33 points and finished with 9 assists.  Deng had another solid performance coming up huge in the final quarter with defense and putting in 23 for his team.  Carlos Boozer had another improved outing getting 12 rebounds and 11 points for his double-double, and the star of the fourth Gibson scoring 11 helping to close out the big game five win.

“Taj, he doesn’t know how good he is right now.” said Rose after the game.

Atlanta’s biggest scorer was Jeff Teague putting up 21 points and dishing out 7 assists.  Josh Smith and Joe Johnson were finding there shots combining for 31.

“I thought Jeff did a good job,” Atlanta’s coach Larry Drew said. “He has been pretty consistent for us. Coming out every night, he has been scoring for us and has a tough time defending Derrick Rose.”

The Bulls will head to Atlanta Thursday night for game six, if Chicago can win that match they will move on to play either Boston or Miami.  Game six will be at 7pm on ESPN at the Phillips Arena in Georgia.
