Brown Line Strikes Car on NW Side

A Brown Line train struck a car early Sunday morning near the Kedzie station in the Albany Park neighborhood.

At about 7:20 a.m., a brown line train came in contact with a vehicle at the ground level crossing in the 4600 block of N. Kedzie, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.

Customers riding on the brown line train were able to exit through the rear cars on to the Kedzie station platform. There were no reported injuries abroad the train, said Chicago Transit Authority spokeswomen Wanda Taylor.

The brown line train did derail upon hitting the car and took out about 75 feet of the Kedzie platform, said to Fire News Affairs Chief Joe Roccasalva. There were no customers on that area of the platform, according to Roccasalva.

The driver of the car was taken in serious to critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, said Roccasalva.┬áThe operator of the brown line train, “who was shaken up,” was also taken to the hospital in good condition, said Roccasalva.

Brown lines trains are operating between Western and the Loop. Shuttle buses are in effect servicing Western, Rockwell, Francisco, Kedzie and Kimball.
