Blackhawks Grab Two Points For Shootout Win

Columbus- Blackhawks get two points for the win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, even if it was a scary, messy game for Chicago the two little points are a huge help.  Chicago is still hanging  in there, with the eighth spot for the playoffs.

“Nothing wrong with that, we’ll take anything we can get right now,” said Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville. “When you’re down late in the game, it turns out to be a huge win for us.”

Chicago started the game looking like their old selves scoring two in the first.  Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook helped with the early lead each getting one past Blue Jacket’s goalie Mathieu Garon.

But before the first was done Columbus got one back getting a tip in goal by Maksim Mayorov.  Mayorov got his stick in the right place redirecting a strong shot from the point making it skip over Corey Crawford finding the back of the net.

The second was taken over by penalties, the two teams combined for twenty penalty minutes.  Columbus has the only one that took advantage of the penalties getting a power play goal scored by Derick Brassard getting the game tied up at 2s.

The Blue Jackets took the lead with Samuel Pahlsson putting one in with 7 minutes left.

That wasn’t it for the third or the Blackhawks, Bryan Bickell landed a wrist-er past Garon tying it back up at 3-3.  Neither team could get anything else in for the rest of third or the 5 minute overtime period sending the game into a shoot out.

The first five shooters were not able to get anything in, great saves and a couple misses.  Then it was Viktor Stalbergs turn, Stalberg was 1 for 1 on his shoot out chances this year, with a great move he got Garon to miss on hissingle deke backhand shot winning it for the Blackhawks and getting them that extra point.

“I’ll try to do everything I can,” Viktor Stalberg said.

Chicago only has five games until the start of the playoffs.  They are still sitting in the final spot but the extra point added a little bit more buffer room between them and Calgary who have 89 points.  The Blackhawks will have one day off to prepare for their game against the Lightning Sunday in Chicago at 6pm on WGN.
