Black, red, and white : Hawks are headed to meet Mr. President

WASHINGTON-President and Mrs. Obama will welcome the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks to the White House on Friday March, 11, 2011 to honor the team’s 2009-10 championship season.

Accompanying the team will be chairman Rocky Wirtz, president John  McDonough, vice president Jay Blunk, general manager Stan Bowman and coach Joel Quenneville. A ceremony is set to take place at at 3:00 p.m. ET. After the ceremony, players will conduct a street hockey workout and clinic at a rink set up on the south lawn for local youth in accordance with First Lady Michelle Obama, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and USA Hockey executive director Dave Ogrean.The clinic for local youngsters is apart of Mrs. Obama’s new collaboration, Let’s Move! initiative.

Earlier in the week, members of the team and Hawks staff will also visit troops and their families at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

The Blackhawks will be in Washington, D.C. for a March 13 game against the Washington Capitals.
