Columbia College Building Evacuated

A Columbia College building was evacuated Monday due to a ‘suspicious’ call over the weekend.

A voice mail message left on a telephone line at Columbia College over the weekend caused an evacuation and a police and fire response Monday.

The message was left on a voicemail in an administrative offices at the 618 S. Michigan building at around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

Perez did not know the details of the threat, but did say police were performing a full search of the building.

Students of Columbia College were notified via by the college’s emergency alert system either by e-mail, phone call and/or text message.

The building was reopened at about 3:30 p.m. after a search of the building came up clear.
