3rd Cop Under Review for Sex Allegations

After two Chicago Police officers wererelieved of their powers earlier this week due to sexual assault allegations, a third officer is now under investigation, according to police. The third officer, who was not present at the time of the alleged on-duty sex assault Wednesday morning, works in the same district and works the same watch as the others accused.

Although the third officer was not involved in this week’s incident, he has been indicated in a previous occurrence that involved that a young woman, on a night that he was partnered with one of the other accused officers.

“While these allegations are not criminal at this time or directly associated with [the Wednesday incident,] the [third] officer has been relieved of his police powers and placed in an administrative assignment pending resolution of the allegation,” Chicago police said in an e-mailed statement to the Tribune on Saturday.

An official complaint has been filed against the third officer, and also against one of the others involved in the assault this week.

The two accused officers picked up a 22-year-old woman early Wednesday morning near Addison Street and Sheffield Avenue, who had been walking alone, intoxicated and crying after leaving a friend’s home, she told police.  The officers offered the woman a ride home, and while en route to her apartment, she and one of the officers engaged in sexual activity in the front seat of the marked police sports utility vehicle.

After arriving at the woman’s residence, all three entered the apartment, where she had sex with the second officer. The woman told police she felt intimidated by the police officers and was scared to resist their sexual advances. While having sex in her apartment, she banged on the wall in an effort to get her neighbor’s attention, she then ran screaming into the hallway when a different neighbor heard the woman and called police around 3 a.m. according to the report. She was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Items belonging to the officers were reportedly found in the apartment after the incident including a cell phone and some pieces of their uniform.

No charges have been filed against any of the three officers, who have all been placed on administrative duty pending the department’s  investigation.
